Best Car Buying Sites in Canada

Last Updated on by Jessica Lake

One of the keys to getting a great deal on a new or used car is locating multiple cars to make offers on. These are the top auto classifieds websites and apps in Canada.

Kijiji

Kijiji is Canada’s leading classified site. It’s free to use for sellers and buyers. You will find all sorts of general goods and A LOT of cars. Kijiji is particularly great for finding used cars, but most dealers list their new inventory on Kijiji as well.

General Tips

  • Click the heart icon (only available in the mobile app) to favorite/save a listing
  • Edit your search radius if you are willing to travel for the right deal

Tips for Used Cars

  • Filter for private sellers if you’d like to avoid dealerships (you have to be in the Cars & Vehicles section in order to do this)

Tips for New Cars

  • Make sure you read the listing to ensure the pricing includes all mandatory fees / is not calculated based on special deductions such as a down payment.

Facebook Marketplace

The Facebook marketplace continues to become more and more popular. Listings are tied to a seller's profile which helps make buyers feel more comfortable.

The search feature is quite intelligent and works buying determining what you are looking for and suggesting similar cars if there aren’t any exact matches. This can be frustrating at times, depending on what you are looking for.

Tips for Facebook Marketplace

  • When you find a car you like, click on the seller's profile to see if you have any mutual friends that can introduce you.
  • If can be difficult to tell if the seller is a dealer. Click their profile to see if they have several cars for sale.

Craigslist

Craigslist is the dominant classifieds site in the United States. It’s available in Canada, but Kijiji has most of the marketplace in Canada. Having said that, check your city as certain regions, such as Vancouver, see more Craigslist listings.

Tips for Craigslist

Do a few searches to determine if Craigslist is used in your city. If not, eliminate it from your search.

Autotrader.ca

For years Autotrader.ca has been a key player in the auto marketplace. If you’re a little older, you may even remember their print publications. Autotrader is used Canada wide, and it’s used heavily by dealers.

Tips for Autotrader

Autotrader is a great site to find exotic cars. If you are looking for a classic car or a supercar, you’ll definitely want to favourite Autotrader.

Carpages.ca

Carpages is a lesser-known Canadian auto listing site, but it should definitely be a part of your search. Carpages has been around since 2004. They have partnerships with used dealer associations - there is a ton of inventory on their website.

Used Cars Canada

Used Cars Canada features listings for used cars from across Canada. It’s my least favourite site to use in the list because it is slow. But it’s definitely worth a quick search if you are on the market for a used car.

eBay Motors

Purchasing from eBay/at auction can be complicated and risky. Having said that, if you are looking for a rare car or are willing to shop cross-border, it can be a great way to save significant money or find a rare classic car.

Canadian Black Book

The Canadian Black Book has some listing however their inventory is sparse compared to the sites mentioned above, and everything on their site is likely syndicated (posted) to the other classified sites mentioned above.
